Five questions for a smart-building buyer
- What decision will the data support? Start with billing, leak response, plant efficiency, maintenance or another defined use case.
- Which field evidence is required? Identify the meters, sensors, controls and operating context needed to make that decision.
- How will systems interoperate? Document M-Bus, Modbus, BACnet, LoRaWAN, MQTT, APIs and any protocol-conversion responsibility.
- Who owns the data path? Name the owner for device identity, credentials, gateways, validation, dashboards and alarm response.
- How will the result be checked? Agree commissioning tests, acceptance criteria and ongoing data-quality measures.
District cooling needs more than a BTU meter
A chilled-water billing or performance workflow includes flow and temperature sensing, meter commissioning, communications, tenant mapping, validation, tariffs and dispute evidence. A digital twin or predictive model cannot repair a meter that represents the wrong loop or a gateway whose missing intervals are silently estimated.
